PLUMSTED TOWNSHIP – Newly elected Board of
Education members Harry Miller and Sandra Soles
took their oaths of office at last night’s annual board
reorganization meeting. Miller was the top vote getter
in April's school election, while Soles took the number
two spot, as an 11th hour write - in candidate. Both
Soles and Miller begin three year terms on the board
of education. Both received the oath of office from
Business Administrator Frank Gripp.

Soles said earlier she made the decision to run as
soon as long time incumbent Board member Herbert
Marinari withdrew from the campaign for reelection.

Marinari made his decision past the deadline for
getting his name off the ballot.   >

EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR RELAY FOR LIFE
5/5/08
PLUMSTED TOWNSHIP – You can almost feel the excitement in the air today, as residents of New Egypt,
Allentown and Millstone prepare for the year’s signature event in the ongoing fight against a dreaded
disease.

"The RELAY FOR LIFE, Communities United to Fight Cancer" will kick off at 6 PM Friday May 9 at the New
Egypt High School on Evergreen Road. “The excitement is fantastic," John Pfefferkorn Relay Public
Relations Chairman said recently. " The momentum has been building throughout the community. I can’t
wait for the fun on relay day to see the love of so many people as they share the mission to find a cure for
cancer,”   Pfefferkorn said.

Relay for Life ceremonies will begin with a special dinner for Survivors. The dinner will be prepared as a
special service project by Millstone Girl Scouts. Opening ceremonies set for 7 p.m. will follow the dinner,
Pfefferkom said.

The evening's inspiration will crystallize with the emotional Luminaria Ceremony. At 10 PM, the lights will
go out and luminaria bags lining the New Egypt High School track will be lit by Boy Scouts from Millstone,
Allentown and New Egypt.
The night will be transformed, as Scouts light a "pathway of hope" around the track. Participants will light
candles and join in a community of remembrance for those who have passed on, and support for those
who continue their courageous battle against the disease.

Focusing on a future without cancer, the theme for this year’s Relay is IMAGINE, and money raised will go
to The American Cancer Society to fight the disease through: research, education, advocacy and patient
services. The first six New Egypt/Allentown/Millstone Relays held at the New Egypt High School Track
raised over $600,000 to support the American Cancer Society. To date 45 teams are set to participate in
the Relay, with hundreds of participants set to hit the track. Each team will decorate a campsite based on
the IMAGINE theme, will walk around the track and compete in events throughout the evening, organizers
said.

The true magic of the all night event rests with community members coming together to support their own.
“We couldn’t have come this far without the generosity of many contributors and the volunteers who share a
goal to fight cancer,” Anita  Pfefferkorn, Relay chairperson said recently. “ I’m very pleased with the outreach
and support and especially from the younger people who have gotten personally involved.  It’s important for
people to contribute to the community they live in.”

With events scheduled throughout the evening, The Relay event will end Saturday morning at sunrise,
Pfefferkorn said.
COMMUNITY MEMBERS ASKED TO SHOW UP FOR THE KIDS!
5/8/08
PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP – Parents facing the prospect
of a long hot summer with their children, need to roll up
their sleeves and make it to the Helen Fort Middle School
Saturday at 9 a.m.

Three complete playground sets have been donated to
the township. Civic leaders and area business owners
are working together to “bring them home” to the kids.
Organizers need volunteers to help disassemble the
sets, load them into trucks and transport them back to
the township.

“We have had the great opportunity to come into
possession of three play sets, “Township resident Peter
Emmons said at last night’s Council meeting.
We would like to donate them to the township, for placement either at Imagination Kingdom, or where ever you
want." Emmons appeared before council with Charles Marlin, Jr, an area business owner joining in the effort.

Emmons said the sets were obtained from United Communities, Inc., the company in charge of building private
housing for military personal at both Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base.

The play ground sets  are currently located on Fort Dix Housing along Juliustown Road.  The military housing is
being torn down, and while Emmons said while he understood a decision on where to put the sets would take
some time, the sets had to be removed from the site immediately.      For More - Click to

Assemblyman Ron Dancer is shown wearing the Blue and Gold
horse racing colors of the late Stanley Dancer Stables to emphasize
the
$1Billion economic value the State Horse Racing and Breeding
Industry.
Assemblyman Ron Dancer spoke recently at a rally opposing
Governor Corzine’s proposed elimination of the Department of
Agriculture and said that the farming industry is too important to New
Jersey for this department to be eliminated.
“In a state we call the ‘Garden State’ this department is of vital
importance,” said Dancer, R-Ocean, Monmouth, Burlington and
Mercer. “We must have a voice in the Governor’s cabinet for the
farming industry and we must have a department trained to focus on
and respond to the concerns of our state’s farmers.”
Corzine has proposed eliminating the department as part of this
year’s budget cuts, but Dancer noted the department is one of the
smallest in state government and most of its functions are essential
and will need to be transferred to other departments.

COMMUNITIES COME TOGETHER TO FIGHT CANCER
5/12/08
PLUMSTED TOWNSHIP – This year’s Relay for Life will
deliver a 1-2 punch in the fight against Cancer. Even
though Friday nights over night Relay Event was
canceled because of rain, the Relay Ceremony went on
as planned.

The Relay Event has been rescheduled for Sunday June
8 from 12 noon to 7 PM at the Indian Rock Campground,
920 West Veterans Highway in Jackson.

Friday’s Ceremony was moved inside the New Egypt
High School. While the change may have required some
last minute logistic maneuvers, the night was one to
remember, organizers said.“It was a little bit of a
challenge,” Relay Chairperson Anita Pfefferkorn said
Monday. “We never really expected it to rain, we were
being optimistic, but I think it was a huge success.”

It was standing room only in the NEHS gym, as
community members joined together to make their
voices heard.
